There is apparently a documentary on tonight where a guy goes to Switzerland and pays 3000 for an assisted suicide. My question is, what is the point of going to Switzerland and paying out money when you could just overdose in your own house for a few quid?

i agree with Naomi, When my mum was dying her nurses kept trying to get her to have Morphine, despite the fact that she kept telling them quite honestly that she was not in any pain. when she finally went into Cheynes-Stokes Respiration (also sometimes called "last gasp breathing") and slipped into a coma her nurse gave her a massive dose of morphine which ended her suffering quite quickly, which i was greatful for because she was terminally ill anyway and it was horrifying watching her suffer like that.
I think assited suicide should be allowed as long as the person who wants to die is proven to be of sound mind and willingly asks to die with digniy.
Im completely for assisted suicide my cousin was one of the people who went over for it. however when my uncle and aunt returned after going with him they were investigated by the police. despite the fact it hadnt even happened in this country. the investigation went on for a couple of months an then dropped. in my opinion all the investigation did was make an awful grieving time much worse. it is the choice of the person going not any one elses. as someone mentioned in one of the other answers you wouldnt let an animal suffer for that you would get prosecuted the law works in mysterious ways does it not?
