During the mod revival of 1979 I had a single entitled MOD by an artist also called MOD.

The singer sounded very much like David Essex and the song was credited with being written by someone with the surname Cook.

David Essex was born with the surname Cook.

My question is; does anyone else remember this tune and does anyone know if it was him who recorded it? Also where can I hear it again (I can't find it on Youtube or e-bay)?

Many thanks.

Not familiar with the track you mention but The MODS have 3 tracks on the Mods mayday 1979 cd.

Dave Moss was the bass player in the band and definately not David Essex lol
Got no record of it on my files here at work!!
i have this single but have never played it.It is David Essex according to this by Garry Bushell in this 1979 article

Thanks MrMoz, at last an answer that actually answers the question.

Clearly Gary Bushell didn't rate the single but I do. You should give it a spin, you might like it.

Would you consider selling it? if so, what would you want for it? Do let me know. Thanks again for the answer.

Follow the link below. The site is netsoundsmusic. I got my copy of M.O.D from here a few years ago for 10. Prices have gone up since then. Their search engine shows two copies available for 25 and 30.

If anyone understands the lyrics to the verse that starts "Blue nylon macs..." perhaps you could post them in this thread.
