Can any tell me the difference between the two (as above) - and is either of these what my nan used to call "Rheumatics"?

Arthitis....inflammation of the joints.

Three main types of Arthritis:
a) Osteo-Arthritis
b) Rheumatoid Arthritis
c) Arthritis associated with other diseases.

Your nans definition.....anything that gives pain in the joints or muscles.

Osteo-Arthritis usually affects the large joints e.g hip joint and is usually due to wear and tear.

Rheumatoid Arthritis usually affects the smaller joints�fingers and wrist�a generalized disorder thought to be the body responding to foreign proteins in the blood.
