My son is working as a Self Employed Plasterer Labourer. He receives National Insurance Contribution bills quarterly. He's heard that these are voluntary contributions but i'm not so sure. Is he legally obliged to pay these contributions or not? He reckons if he doesn't pay them it means he will not be able to claim a state Pension which seems a long time off to him as he is in his in early twenties. Could anybody shed any light? Many Thanks
