Memory has nothing to do with how many files you can store/need to store on your computer - thats the Hard Disc.

i just want to be able to store music files mainly. and college work/word docs. dont use it for anything else. do i need to do something to the hard drive then?
How large is your computer's Hard Disc?

Depending on the size, unless you are storing thousands of music files (mp3s?) and work files you should be fine.
