My dyson has suddenly developed a reduction in suction.Ive always kept he filter clean and the brush free of debris.Ive taken it all apart, and no obstuctions. Motor sounds normal. Suction from the motor is very powerful when the bin is off, but Icannot see any blockage in the perforated cone in the bin. I cant afford to put it in for repair at he moment. Any suggestions gratefully received!!

Not a suggestion you probably want to hear I'm afraid but worth noting for the future I think..When you can afford it, I'd trade the Dyson in for another make.

A friend's son spent a week doing work experience in a local electrical store. He reckoned the vast majority of appliances that came in for repair in that timewere Dyson vacuum cleaners and he was told that this was no more than usual.

On another occasion, I was in that same electrical shop where a couple were inspecting a Dyson. Another lady customer saw this and loudly informed them that she was in the commercial cleaning business and frankly "would not have another Dyson even if it was given to me for nothing !"

Caveat Emptor !
Well I've had mine for years and I love it. Had no trouble at all.

Same here 7 years. Only complaint was hose too tightly sprung and bothersome when extended out.
I have had loads of dysons, the first was definetly the best. This is my theory based on my experience. The older dysons were much better than the newer models. They built up a brilliant reputation and now depend on people buying each new model, so the dysons are now designed to be replaced almost yearly!!!
Check for blockages again.

One of your cat's toy mice is stuck in there.

(Well that's alawys the answer with our Dyson. It's brilliant, and I wouldn't change it.)
Me too Iv'e had a Dyson for 10 years and it gets used constantly without a single problem, they are the Mutts Nuts. Pity all those poor suckers that paid 1k for a kirby, I would buy another Dyson tomorrow.
there are some excellent step by step guides on the dyson website.

the beauty of the design is that so many of the parts are easily removable and/or replaceable.
Have had 2 Dysons - they start off practically sucking your carpet off the floor and then gradually the power diminishes! I too kept them well maintained and spotless, but to no avail. Sadly I have never gotten to the bottom of this but would not buy a Dyson again!
contact the helpline i found them very good and very very helpful and have often sent me things at no cost even when the item has been out of guarantee
