Can you eat an egg with the white stringy bits in. Also I had an egg which had a dark bit around hte yolk is this ok?

Yes you can. These strands are the chalazae which anchor the yolk in the centre of the thick white. They are neither imperfections nor beginning embryos. The more prominent the chalazae, the fresher the egg.

As long as it doesn't smell bad it will be fine
if it's black round the yolk it usually means you have boiled it too long
