Aircon problem

My Peugeot 206 is 3.5 years old and has never had an aircon regas. The aircon has recently stopped working, (its hard to tell if it is not working at all or just not very cold) and I can hear a gentle whirring noise when the air con is on which I never could before. The sound gets louder when I press on the accelerator.

I am hoping it will just need a regas but the noise is making me think it could be something a lot more expensive! Anybody got any experience of this? I can't get it booked in to be looked at for a few weeks so I need to know if its wise to start saving the pennies!

My fiancees 206 needed a regas at 4 years old. If it isn't a regas you are wise to be concerned because other aircon fixes tend not to be cheap.

On another car I had to buy a new compressor which cost 300+ and that was a few year's back.

It does sound like you're A/C pump/compressor needs replacing. The whirring noise is coming from the pump which is driven by a belt on the engine, hence its gets louder when you press the accel.
the air con on all vehicles should be serviced every two years, it may be taht the gas has degenerated also when regassed it has to be re oiledthis will probably quiet the pump down ( if you are in bristol i can do this for you!
