I'm thinking of buying one of htose shower/steam cabins for my bathroom.  I understand they need a special connection to the mains water supply and permission needs to be granted fromt he water authority, is that correct? Also, I would like to hear any comments from people who have one, are they any good?

Hope not as I have one !

Things to consider

1 They use a lot of water if you have all the sprays running and if you have a hot water cylinder it will drain it fairly quickly. You will also need to install a variable pressure pump

2 If you have  a combi system ( best option for continuous hot water) then you need sufficient mains pressure or again you will need a pump.

3 They are not cheap to install. You need a qualified electrician to bring mains electric into a bathroom with all the safety trip switches.

4 They come in a kit and need an experienced fitter to install. This may cost you 600 depending on the size and complexity of the job.

Verdict? I really enjoy mine, Most of the time it's used as a shower so the features are not used that often. The radio is poor, the telephone is a puzzle ( why would you want to use a phone in a shower?) but on a cold winters day or for an aching back its the business!

thanks for the advice Harley, I guess u only need permission from the water authority if u ask for it ;-) I think I'll go ahead and get one, can u recommend any brands?

I think most of them are imported. There is a big mark up in those posh bathroom centres. I got mine from a discount warehouse it was a lot cheaper. An idea of "true" prices are here, these are similar to mine, the blue lights really set it off.
