sony HDD DVD recorder

Has anyone had any problems with one of these?
My mum bought it last week and it recorded onto the hard drive ok. Now when she records anything she just gets a black screen as playback.
Do they update themselves or should we re-scan?

Check and make sure the input switch is set correctly. When watching the dvd output you should see what you are recording. The input button on the remote goes between analogue tuner, dtv tuner, line 1 (scart ) and line 2 (front panel).

Yes I think pug is correct, I`m just getting used to a new Sony and yesterday I recorded 30 mins of blank screen. I realised I had recorded from line 2, and I have nothing coming through on there.
