My laptop screen has got a large crack in it, which has got bigger over last few weeks, also a large black blob has appeared. Can it be repaired, as my ins company say its not covered by accidental damage as I dropped it! Thanks, Jane

well firstly question the insurance company... that is what should be covered by accidental damage.

if not check ebay or google laptop screen replacement.

with a bit of shopping about it shouldn't cost you much over about 100quid to get it replaced (unless it's a huge laptop screen!)

Hi Chuck, have really had a go at ins, even rung them when bought laptop to make sure its covered. It says in small print tho, portable devices not covered if moved about. How ridiculous! Thought thats what a laptop was for. Only covered if its knocked off a table or house fire! Thanks will have a look on google, its 15" screen. I will get my money back some how thru ins!

Its an advent 7109, had it nearly 2 years

Sorry yes it is.
I've just had a new screen fitted on my son's laptop, a 15.4" for an Acer travel mate. I sent it to a place called Notebookbitz - who also sell screens on ebay - and all it cost was 74 odds, plus p+p both ways.Way cheaper than a new lappy!
try your local independent computer shop, go armed with the knowledge what the screen will cost (about 70quid)

I'd do it for about 30-40 quid, if they try charging you more than 50 haggle, it's not that hard a job to do.
