Every year my neighbour starts putting their outside xmas decor lights all over the house in september. They light up 1st november. They are nice nearer xmas say about 1st Dec. But we have this massive lighting too early I think. Its not only the house it's out front and top of garage a little over the top. It is not done for any charity.I am not against it I just think it is a bit too early.

It is far too early. I hate those dreadful houses! Tack City and how do they pay their electricity bill???

Bar humbug and all that!
December 1st is about as early as it should be in my opinion.
week before xmas is as early as my mum and dad get theirs up only because dad never gets round to it that early on
Agree totally tacky american influenced rubbish!!!!
My opinion is Christmas lights should not be put on until after Rememberence Sunday.
My tree goes up a week before Christmas and not before. My mum puts hers up during the first part of November :-O
I have even known her to do it at the end of October before.
I used to live across the road from a man who did the whole front and roof of his house with flashing santas and reindeer etc,it used to be like trying to sleep in a nighclub from November till January because my bedroom was on the front of the house and he kept the lights on all night.
It does look tacky as some houses go really over the top!!!

I don't have any, but I like just the little icicles lights and that in my opinion is just enough.

Dont get me started on Xmas

Why exactly do we celebrate it again? lol
In reality it is a pagan festival.

The god squad hi-jacked it.
I don't think Christmas lights should be switched on until after:

1. Halloween
2. Guy Fawkes night
3. Remembrance Sunday.

But I do love Christmas, trees & lights!

1st December is the earliest Xmas shoudl start I think.

I dont put any decs up till about a week before.
Yes, I agree sally. Christmas lights are switched on much too early & as for Christmas cards in the shops from early September - well.!!!!

I usually decorate our tree, etc., about the 10th Dec, then take them down on the 5/6th Jan.

That's long enough!
Sorry to sound a misery but what a waste of money Xmas cards are. I think we should only send to people we dont see, say 'Happy Christmas' to all the people we see and then donate the money we save to charity.

Am I being miserbale!?
It's the postage that gets me sally! It always costs me more than the Christmas cards!

I s'pose it's nice for some people to find Christmas cards on the mat, only we don't seem to write very much these days. It's either emails & phone calls!

It's a shame, 'cos I love writing & have several nice fountain pens that don't get used as much as they used to - although I do still tend to write to people who aren't online.
