Pesky popping out ribs

Went to see my osteopath the other day as had been having a lot of pain in my chest and under one of my shoulderblades and he said a rib had popped out of place and so he popped it back in.

This has happened a couple of times before.

Is there anything I can do to stop this happening. I see him for my arthritis as well but will get costly to have to pay so much to get ribs popped back in periodically or have to try and put up with the pain until my next arthritis appointment.

Thanks for any suggestions :)

Hi Jenna,

Did he say why it is popping out of place and what you could do to stop it from happening? Could it be weak muscles surrounding the rib which are allowing it to move, so could you do some exercises to strengthen the surrounding area?

He didn't say but I will ask him at my next appointment and see what he suggests and see if he has any exercises.

I was wondering about weak muscles and whether it's connected to my chest pain. Have ruled out reflux as got that under control with omeprazole and GP said she thinks it might be referred pain from my stomach (finally go back to see gastro next month).
What is your chest pain like?

A really strong uncomfortable pain which moves around.

Often starts in the middle and moves left round under my boob and feel a lot of pain under my shoulders blades as well, more the left one.

Get quite short of breath sometimes as well.

I've been told various things, pleurisy, pericarditis, reflux and now referred pain from my stomach.

Had an ECG a while back which came back ok and have been checked over a few times when I've been having the pain and am told there are no signs of it being anything heart related.
Are you taking any anti-inflams? Sounds like you could really do with them. I take powdered rose hip since any drugs like ibuprofen etc make my colitis worse. Turmericis another one. They really do work and won't cause side effects.
Question Author
I can't take the main ones as have got stomach ulcers from them before.

Think the sulfasalazine has anti-inflammatory properties so will have a check on that.

Where you do get your more natural ones from?
I get Rose Hip from Holland and Barrett. It's about 20 a pot and I take 3 capsules a day- I open them and sprinkle the powder on my cereal! It's less harsh than swallowing pill versions. You can also get Rose Hip liquid. I have found my arthritic joints caused by colitis have much improved since taking it!

Sounds great to me :)

Think I'm due a trip to Holland and Barratt, thanks for the tip and hope you're doing good at the mo x
I have exactly the same problem Jenna1978 and only this week have had to go back to the osteopath because my rib had popped out of place again. I too am arthritic. It also affects my right arm and I get electric shocks down my arm. Horrible problem. Perhaps I will try the rose hip remedy that Scarlett suggests.
