Working out my roster

I work four days on and four days off.

Normally to work out my days on or off I get a calendar and go through with a pen circling four days then leaving four blank. Invariably I make a mistake about June time, and have to redo half the year.

Is there an easy way I can use my computer to work out my future duties?

There is a very quick and easy way using Google calendar - and best of all it is web based so you can access it from any pc that is connected to the internet.

When you google calendar up and running, click 'create event'.

Insert your first day, let's call it Monday, and then click 'repeat daily'. You will get a drop down box and by mycalculation the next first day of your 4 day 'ons' will be 9 days later, so click 9.
Put the relevant information in.

Now repeat with the next three days - Tues, Weds and Thurs.

Hopefully it will now show your next lot of 'ons' to be Tues, Weds, Thurs and Fri of the following week; Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat the week after and on and on and on.

Hope I've explained it ok - it is quick and easy in reality

Thanks Ethel.

I'll try it after work tomorrow. Goodnight.
I think it should be
(working down the options)
create event - work on
when 21/10/08 - 24/10/08 (or whatever)
repeats daily
repeat every 8 days
starts 21/10/08
ends - never
this produces a 4 day block which repeats every 4 days
Ac - no it doesn't

Week 1
Work - mon, tues, wed, thurs
off - fri, sat, sun, mon

Week 2
Work - tues, wed, thurs, fri

Tuesday of week 2 is 9 days after Monday of week 1
does too

(to the tune of 12 days of christmas ....)
after the eighth day of rosta the whole thing starts again then it repeats, then it repeats
so the whole thing lasts for eight days
then it repeats then it repeats
.... 2 maids a milking .... 3 pies being humble and a smug bug undeeer a bridge!!!!
trall la lah ;-)
