travelling to united states with a criminal record?

I've booked to go to New York next month, i've have already signed a visa waiver form. However have since realised that you may not be allowed in with a criminal record. The person I am travelling with has one for dating from about 10 years ago, is this something to worry about?

you should be right - last time I checking dating wasn't a crime. you might want to have a peek at this thread
