Hi all,
I bought an Acer Aspire 5613 laptop just over a year ago and recently it seems to keep turning itself off, sometimes it doesn't do it for a day or two, but then the other day I was trying to watch a dvd on it, it turned itself off so I turned it back on but then it did it again about 5 minutes later and again 5 minutes after that.
I have been putting the laptop on a wooden table, could it be something to do with overheating? Normally it's on a glass computer table but sometimes it does it when it is on there as well.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks

Have you ever cleaned the fan out? Could be overheating due to a cloggy fan,

Hi Ethel,
No I haven't, is this something I can do myself? Sorry I'm a bit rubbish with computers. I think I know where it is, do I just unscrew the cover and then clean it? How do I clean it?
Thanks for your help - you always seem to answer my questions!
You can certainly do it yourself - I do it every couple of months.

A clear brush like a blusher brush or fat paint brush and a can of compressed air (from any computer shop) is all you need.

Take the cover off, brush the fan gently. Use the compressed air to blow the rest of the dust away, and blow through the vents as well.

While you're at it - give the keyboard a good blow. You'll be surprised at the muck that comes out.

Hi Ethel
That's great I've just had a go and it was pretty disgusting the amount of fluff under there! Just did a makeshift job but will get the compressed air you mentioned and do it properly.
Fingers crossed this will stop it turning itself off.
Many thanks!
You can try using a vacuum cleaner and suck the dust out from the vent hole. Save you a couple of quid on the compressed air.
