I appear to have RLS (restless lag syndrome) and wondered if anybody else out there had found a cure by changing diet ? I know Offal, Sardines, red meat, red wines, port, cheese are known to affect gout sufferers which may be linked to RLS ?
Any suggestions greatly welcomed !

Hi creepy....not much help I'm afraid, but my Gran suffers from RLS and has done for about 20 odd years. She's been to loads of different docs over that time and tried various different tablets, potions dietary changes etc. I'm afraid to say that not one single thing has made any difference to the symptoms. She never drinks alcohol (never has) eats very little red meat, and only occasionally eats cheese or sardines, but to no avauil. Good luck, sorry couldn't be of more help.

Try typing "restless leg syndrome" (without the quotes) at: http://www.google.com/ and you will find a lot of information.

Some gentle exercise before bedtime might help, plus leg stretches. Stand a yard away from the wall, one foot in front of the other with hands touching wall. Bend front leg at the knee. Keep the rear leg straight with foot flat on the floor to stretch the calf muscle. Hold for 10 seconds. Then alternate and repeat two or three times. I don't honestly think diet makes much difference but if she's dehydrated and doesn't drink enough water, this might make the cramps fidgeting worse.
my dad swears by quinine. he gets tablets but also its in tonic water (not soda)

Hi There!

You could send a blood sample to the York Labs who can pin point what food could be causing the problem. They are know woril wide. Check out there web site.

Hi.I know you posted your question a very long time ago, but I wanted to be of help to anyone else who looks up RLS (and to help you, if you're still suffering).
Eureka! I've found my cure. I went for blood tests, after complaining to my doc of my RLS. Turned out I'm a bit anaemic, so he's put me on iron tablets. No RLS since I started taking them and I was getting RLS every night. I've been a veggie for 3 years, but not suffered the whole time. But the last few months it's been awful and could be partly down to my age, as well as iron deficiency - I'm sure it gets worse as you get older - I'm only nearly 44, but creeping closer to the menopause! A lady at work finds her RLS comes on just before her period, again suggesting that it could be linked to low iron. Get blood tests, get iron tablets and, hopefully, you might be cured too! :O)
