would you still get maintenance after the age of 18?
Yes, up to the age of 19 in some circumstances.

I don't know about paying the child directly though - is it a CSA order, court order or mutual agreement?
A person is not a child at 18.

Why should they get child maintenance?
That is the law, toptom.

"Between the ages of 16 and 19, if the child is enrolled full-time in school (more than 12 hours per week and the course is up to and including A level), child maintenance for the child must be paid. This does not apply to advanced study, like study at a college or university, this only includes non-advanced study"

Child benefit can be paid until the child's 20th birthday
ou will receive Child Benefit for them until 31 August after their 16th birthday, and after that date payments only continue if one of the following applies:

* they are under 20 and in relevant education or training
If what Ethel says is true which i believe it is; then therefore maintenance is normally paid to the parent; as is child benefit when a child is in full time education after the age of 16.
who houses the child? Surely some of the cost of maintenance goes towards this, so should be paid to the person who pays the rent/mortgage
