I want to learn at home and/or in the car maybe, my boyfriend is interested too so we can test each other and work on learning together, so that might be more appropriate to some packages than others.

We fancy learning either German (that I know a little of) or French (that the boyfriend knows a little of), so we have some grounding to kick start us.

If the package is good we would like to move on to more and more different languages in the future so if we can keep with the same company/package that would aid us long term.

Can anyone reccommmend a good package/company to use in the way of books and or cd/dvds? What ever the best way to learn at home is these days.

Thanks in advance

thanks for that, and the films is a very good idea thanks wouldnt have thought of that
I chose Greek so that I would be able to talk with the locals when I went to Corfu this year.
Language CD's by Michel Thomas are very good especially the French but they are a little pricey. Have a look on Ebay you'll certainly benefit from them.
you could go to language classes or buy revision books and work books from waterstones or WHSmiths and teach your self or teach your self with a friend so you have company.
Try a 'Pimsleur Method' CD. I got a beginner's course of Egyptian Arabic. I think I paid about 20 for 8 CD's. It's all auditory so you just listen to it when you're driving and I could have a conversation with the locals when I went on holiday despite knowing no Egyptian before that!
Also, go on a website called Before You Know It or 'BYKI' and you can download a lot of stuff for free. I've found that very good for learning vocabulary.
