In some 'E'Mails and internet sites there are some times square blocks with a another tiny square inside that, with a little red X in it. The larger square is a photo or object that I am meant to see but it wont open. this is not with all the sqares/blocks but it is obviously there to be viewed, has anyone any idea how to open these what I assume are Pictures? I have W.XP.Home/PSP8, plenty of memory
and everything seems to work fine

Sorry 'Postdog' the box is unticked already. Has anyone else got an answer please?
on websites this happens when you upload a picture and put a link to to it, when the original photo is deleted, but the link stays, visitors see the red X. this also happens when websites are very crowded and they just can't load the pictures. basically red x appears when photo is deleted or website server can't upload it.

the situation is very similar when we talk about emails. when you see red x on emails this most likely mean that email server hadn't loaded the picture from server to your computer. this can happen when internet connection is poor or it is overloaded.

sometimes it may happen for another reason. not each email system can recogznize pictures. for example, if you select whole website content with all the logos, pictures etc and copy it into email message, the pictures most likely won't be displayed and you'll get only red Xs.

if i needed to place a bet, i'd say it's problem with internet connection.

Many thanks LucianaScott, very comprehensive , what you say seems to me to be the most feasible answer to the problem. The thing is I have a friend who receives 'E'mail's from all over the world, and he forwards them on to me.
The result of that is, the said 'E's have been 'forwarded' by half a dozen people and if I was to print them out it would take half a dozen A4 pages for each letter that also contains all the addresses of the forwarding peoples details. Needless to say the 'Meaty' part of the 'E' is sometimes about six lines and some photos, of which two or so have the red x in a square so I have no idea what the square should contain. Again many thanks,
