I see Microsoft were busy pushing down the updates for service pack 3 yesterday.

We have a couple of desktop PCs, both of which took the update ok, but my Toshiba Portege Tablet machine absolutley refused to cooperate at any price!

I tried twice to install the update, but each time recived an error message saying that problems had been encountered and that all updates would be removed.

Anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

I've had a problem recently with the update site - one was for a fresh install of XP and had 108 updates in total. Tried to install these on 3 different machines and it failed every time. However, when I tried again I selected 10 of the updates at a time and this worked. Could be worth giving it a try.

On new installations you often have to install some updates before others can be applied, but I was only updating SP3 on an otherwise up to date machine.
sp3 is has never been a problem for me
but in the past problems have always been due to drivers

I've tried to make a slipstreamed disk - but for some reason it won't accept a corporate serial number ...
see http://www.nliteos.com/download.html

so I always start with a slipstreamed sp2 install

I also always update mobo and video drivers before applying SP3

(I always use the full service pack file - not the updater)

Cheeky - consider slipstreaming to sp2- it will cut the updates to less than 20
AC - thanks for that, hadn't even considered it and it would certainly save a lot of time.
I've tried to install SP3, and some of my applications malfunctioned, so I ended up doing a System Restore to remove SP3.
