Can anyone tell me the best treatment for insect bites? My husband has bites all over his ankles which he has said are itching, burning and painful. He's in the army and spent a few days in woods last week, I've no idea why they are only on his ankles and I can't work out what has bitten him but he does have little red lumps which look like bites. I just want to find the best treatment as his constant fidgeting and scratching is driving me mad :)

Thank you

benadryl works wonders for me when the little sods attack me.i think its around the ankles as they can easily get up trousers legs as i always get bitten on my ankles and legs.benadryl doesnt completely stop it itching all day long but its just the odd scratch rather than constantly itching which makes the bites sore and is irritating.also a product called anthisan is good too but a little more expensive but is very soothing and cooling.
hope this helps
keep me updated if poss :-D
hi you can buy a stick in the supermarket thats called anti bite stick or similar. it costs about 2.50. very good and small enough for you to carry in your handbag or your husbands jacket pocket.

hope you get some relief soon.
Buy a tube of Lanacane cream,it stops the itching really quickly and can be re-applied as and when necessary.
I have a couple of allergies which always result in itchiness and have found Betnovate to be very good, good luck.
calamine lotion is very good for calming and soothing. also piriton medicine is good for insect bites and rashes good luck
Have he presented sick with them?
Geographically there are some plants grow which when they come into contact with skin they cause just the type of reaction your husband is exhibiting.
Salisbury Plain , for example, is covered with a particular plant that causes many serving personnel grief. I strongly suggest he presents on sick parade as they will have a better idea as to what the problem is.
Any antihistamines as it would seem that he is having an allergic reaction. Superdrugs own or tescos are exactly same as named brands just cheaper. Also you can buy a thing that gives you a little shock to take away the itching

Calendula ointment for the bites (its homeopathic, we used to call it "magic cream" as kids cos it works for all sorts) but as a preventative measure, Avon do a moisturising "mist" that works brilliantly at keeping away mozzies! Its in a pale purple bottle, most Avon reps will know what you mean as its pretty popular for just this x
