in cost and the quality of the goods I bought were amazing and at a fraction of the shops prices!

Has anyone here gone to an open market? What did you think of the goods? Did you buy anything?

I think markets now are just a load of tat. Lots of shops sell better stuff at cheaper prices.
But that's just my opinion of course.

:-)
We dont have british market, but a european market once a month, the food looks fantastic, but i bought a ciabatta bread and it was 2.50, the other stalls were just to expensive to buy anything!!!
I was born and brought up in Leicester,it used to have the best covered market and I loved shopping there.Gary Lineker's family had a fruit and vegetable stall there for years.I haven't been back there for years so I have no idea if the market is still as good.
I found you get what you pay for - pay rubbish money, you get rubbish.
We have a market where I live once a week
some of the stuff is good and some is tat ...
the fresh produce is better and cheaper than
the shops ...

I was at Wembley Market it was amazing. The place is huge with so much to choose from. I bought lots of fresh ingredients to make a curry, it cost me under a fiver also fresh bread/cakes/fruit all reasonably priced and delicious.
The farmers' markets and the continental markets that we have on a regular basis are pretty good value. The regular bi-weekly markets are a bit tatt & naff, but the fruit/veg stalls have always been good.

I tend not to shop from market stalls, but generally that's because I don't have a lot of time & it's easier to shop for everything all in one place.
I occasionaly go to Bury market, and whilst alot of the produce is fractionaly cheaper than the shops, alot of it isn't. Sadly, it does seem that most of it is now tat, appealing to the chavvier element of society. And whilst i'm no snob- there's only so much polyester childrens replica footy shirts and Burberry knock offs I can stomach.
That sounds like Preston market B00!!!
Hehe daffy- maybe it's the same stallholders?
We have a good farmer's market here every other week....and the quality is excellant....but I find the Continental markets to be way over-priced.
When I lived in Blackburn there was a huge covered market on a Friday and the food stuff was lovely - that was a few years ago now. Where I live now there is a small market once a week and there's this french bakery stall which sells the most fantastic bread and pastries. :) There are regular farmers markets too but they tend to be pretty expensive
I suppose it is quite possible they are the same stallholders B00,most of the stalls are family run and the clothing ones are really awful, the quality of the stuff is p1ss poor! There are quite a few counterfeit brands being sold there too.I will never understand why people want to wear copies of designer or sports labels, they may be cheaper but they are so obviously fake.
I go to Bury market to to stock up on nice fresh meats then freeze it, so much nicer than supermarket bought stuff.

I love the Christmas markets up here in Manchester and me and former colleagues always go along for some gluwein and nice food round Christmas.
Southampton has a german market at Christmas and it's lovely, lots of really different stuff.
I went to a closed market once. But I had to go back the next day when it was open.
