I have a 7 month old female cat who has not yet been 'done'.  In the last couple of days she's been writhing round the floor (almost seductively) and whining constantly.  She's usually quite a shy cat but now she's meowing all the time.  Is she in season and if so how long will this last as I need to get her neutered.

It sounds to me like she is in season and you should have her neutered asap to stop her getting pregnant - unless you live in a top floor flat without access to the outside (and toms).  I am not sure whether you have to wait for her to come out of season for the vet to operate - you need to ask a vet - but if he operates and finds she is pregnant, he would be able to abort the litter.  A few years ago my cat caught me by surprise, getting pregnant before I had had a chance to have her neutered, and I have to say I had an awful time finding good homes for the kittens;  most of the people who contact me (I advertised in newsagents windows) were timewasters or sounded downright rude/unsuitable/weird etc.  So I would not recommend having a litter.

I live in a first floor flat and she's never been out so I'm ok on that score.  I'll need to be quick at the door though.... the way she's carrying on, she'll break the door down to get a 'bit' the little feline floozy.

Most vets will neuter cat whilst in season, unlike dogs.

Cats can come in and and of season continuously.  So the wailing and writhing might go on almost non stop.

I agree with all Hgrove says in the thread above.

Good luck.

I think you all mean spayed not neutered. neutered is for male cats!!

Our cat was about six months old when she started to act rather strange too. We took her along to the vet who said she was in season - she was spayed within the same week & was fine.
