Bit of a weird one!!

Over the last few days my dog is licking her vaginal area quiet alot. She can be lay down, then she will suddenly spring up and start licking that area!!
She has recently had fleas (which has been treated) but I can't see any bites on this area, so don't know if this is the cause.
She has been spayed and is up to date with her worming tablets.
Having looked on the net for any clues (with not much luck) the only other thing I can think is that she has just recently been bathed, so some shampoo could of got into this area.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and would save me a trip to the vets!

Thanks

Okay x
pigandpooh - take her to the vet. It could be something internal that is causing the problem and causing some sort of discharge or itch. It could be caused by shampoo - but it is pretty unlikely.
Ignoring all the pathetic answers, it could be an infection causing irritation, or it could be that her anal glands need emptying, either way a quick trip to the vets will sort it out, either emptying the glands or antibiotics. Is she weeing any more often, because it could also be cystitis.

Thanks for the sensible, MATURE answers wolf63 and lankeela. Don't think it is cystitis because she hasn't been urinating more than normal.
She has also been dragging her bum across the floor so think it might be her anal glands.
Thanks for your help!

Hi,
Could be worms, some fleas carry tape worm I believe. Many people forget to worm their dogs regularly.
