I locked my remote in the boot of my car a while back and my daughter had to drive over to me to bring the spare so that I could get back in. A friend later suggested that you can point the remote at a phone connected to the person with the car and the car will open. We tried it with his Mercedes outside the house and it worked but it didn't work with my BMW. Any ideas or views please.

It doesn't work as far as I am concerned - its a myth
they tried this on a programe called how it works with loads of different cars and it didn't work on any it's a myth
some cars use diffrent types of sensors. some are more powerfull than others and some use the same setup as your tv remote to the tv so need to be within a distance. maybe the mercedes was more powerfull and the phones had nothing to do with it
Try this.

Get a tennis ball. Make a small hole(by heating the tip of a screediver etc). Then putthe ball with the hole covering
the keylock. Press hard until the lock opens. Its somethingto do with the air pressure.
