Do you happen to know which footballer is referenced in the final line - long hair / dirty face?

I do not believe that the description is meant of a specific footballer but is generic of players during the period late-60s to late-70s, examples of which include Rodney Marsh, George Best, Charlie George, Kevin Keegan, etc., known for their flowing locks.

The "dirty faces" may be harking back to when football was a game played by those preoccupied with getting down and dirty on the pitch, often for very little money, instead of the current crop of grossly overpaid, preening prima donnas (IMHO).
