What can cause a keyfob not to work on a car on a drive at home but work perfectly elsewhere?

The following have been mentioned : wireless internet, door bells etc but I am looking for a definitive answer

Sounds to me like there is a radio mast nearby. I had this happen near a coastguard station, and again near a old folks' home in Poynton - which has a big mast behind it.

Used to have problems with mine when parked in the Central Area at Heathrow Airport. The Air Traffic Control radar would block the signals. One just had to get the timing right and press the button when the radar dish was pointing the other way. Quite an interesting game !

Your'e not going to get a definitive answer, because ther are so many possibilities.
as rojash just mentioned there are alot of possibilities, you may just live in a dead area where radio signals are weak. this may sound funny but trust me, touch  the end of the remote against the bottom of your chin and then push the button. That uses your body as an antenna

Try Peanuts idea.My remote only works from about 5 feet away if I am outside my home, but if I put the remote under my chin,it works from about 50 feet away.

Pixies.
