i took out a policy with scottish amicable in 1987.i stopped paying into it in 1993. i cotracted out of serps also.anyway they kept sending me yearly statemennts,it was woth �1960 pounds in 2001.i phoned them this morning asking if i could cash any of it in(thinking i might get �300 or something)i was astounded when he said i could get �14,000 pounds!!! this cant be right surely?

Certainly possible. If you've had the good fortune (or skill) to have your investments in an area that has grown really well (Far East, Ethical, and Property all did well until recently) AND your contracted-out contributions have continued to date then the �14k might be right. Check your recent statements and get confirmation of the 14 grand in writing.
