every time i push the clutch to change gear there's a sqealing noise like marbles in a bottle. before i get ripped off at the garage - any ideas?

Sounds like the thrut bearing has gone and may have damaged the pressure plate
It is best to change all three parts of the clutch while yyour at it
You dot givr us a make/model or fuel type so cannot give an estimate, but guesstimat on �70 for parts and �200 for labour on an escort type car

thanks for that. renault scenic w reg is the make.
Been a while since i did one of those so between 4 and 6 hours labour @�35 an hour, dealers would possibly be �50 an hour (or more) and possibly more for the clutch kit, worth shopping around or ask for personal recomendations
Bit out on that bigboots, my nearest Renault dealer, 40 miles away only charges �80.00 an hour !
Hi tourman oop north times are hard and dealers are reducing there labour rate, no one is busy new cars are not selling and staff cuts are being made, survival of the ruthless it seems
