I have noticed my stool has started to have a kind of white/clear mucus around it which also clouds the water in the bowl. Has anyone experienced similar? (stool is harder than normal due to strong painkillers I am on at the moment)

yuck
if it continues it could be a sign of irritable bowel syndrome, it may be that the hard stools could be irritating gastrointestinal tract

Yes, very helpful............. thank-you.
Lowri, certain pain killers can make you constipated which can result in hard stools, and mucusy stools. You should talk to your doctor and a high fibre diet may help, eg increase your fruit and veg intake.
Yes, I get it a lot. Revolting.

Irritable Bowel is the culprit for me. I have to be very careful with fibre because it makes it very much worse. :(
It sounds like the residue is connected to the painkillers, but with anything out of the ordinary in the digestive system, consult your GP to be sure this is not masking something that needs treatment.
i posted about that several weeks ago, no idea why i had excess mucous in my stools, but I think it's cleared up now.
