I was wondering if anyone could advise me on whether protein powders (traditionally used by bodybuilders) are at all effective at controlling weight for women, if they are used as a meal replacement for two meals a day. Having looked at the ingredients, and calorie and fat content, they seem to be superior to some of the meal replacement options aimed at women, such as Slimfast etc, due to the high sugar content in them, but would be interested in feedback from anyone that knows about this, or has tried it themselves? :o)

By eating a sensible well balanced diet, and eating in moderation combined with daily exercise, you will be healthy and guaranteed to lose weight. Powdered diet drinks or fad diets are bogus and not healthy. One usually loses water weight for the first days not fat, and the body adjust its metabolism to a slower pace burning calories much slower.
lajohn trust me they do work ALONGSIDE a healthy well balanced meal as you said. carys1979 your correct in saying that some of the shakes are superior to lets say slimfast etc..... give it a go and see whether it suits you!

Thanks guys..... I do eat really healthily and do a lot of running anyway, plus Im vegetarian, as I suffer from a hormonal disorder Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, which makes it harder to keep weight off, and has an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, due to insulin resistance, so I was looking to up the amount of protein in my diet to counteract this. I do get pretty narked with people who give me the 'eat healthily and excersise' speech, as it shouldnt be assumed that I dont.... its just that its a lot harder for some of us than others. Im not overweight, but to be the size I like to be, I literally have to starve and train to exhaustion, so I was just looking for a simpler route. Thanks for youre advice....I think I will give it ago, so I'll let you know how I get on. I would still love to hear from anyone else that knows anything on this subject too :o)
