V works pretty well, though a bit frail a few months back.
This morning I started my laptop and downloaded msges, Then an update appeared, which I take to be the one mentioned on the radio today and that was installed, Since then, 'unknown errors / server responded with an error' appear every time I try to get OE or Int. Explorer to work.
Several times I've tried switching the Belkin router off for at least 5 mins and removing the card from side of laptop.
Yet, my desktop which uses the same router works fine. I've checked all the Tools settings and they are identical on both rigs.
Has the patch caused the problem, if so how to fix?

Are you using ZoneAlarm as your firewall? There is an issue with ZA and the MS update KB951748 causing an interuption in internet connectivity.

Since KB951748 is a critical update I would not recommend my usual repair option of removing it so the preferred workaround is to temporarily lower Internet Zone Security to Medium in the Firewall options tab of ZA until either MS or Zonelabs fix the problem.
^^^ my deliberate mistake being ZA is no longer Zonelabs but Check Point.

Thanks kempie. All I need to know.
Kempie, it seems that you have been helping a lot of people with this. What a pain! Because I couldn't get onto the net today, I didn't see your message. So.... I've done all sorts of things, including resetting the router, with all the problems that causes. Still, as usual with these things, I've learnt a lot from this experience.

Thanks for your help.
