Hello, my employer refuses to pay any sick pay. This means that everytime I am off work due to illness, I get docked a days pay. Are there any laws against this?

none at all, its failry common practice. Theonly thing you can do is vote with your feet and get a job with better benefites - i'd suggest the public sector
Statutory sick pay is not payable for the first three days of sickness

Ethel is right as always about statutory sick pay(SSP). And occupational sick pay is usually discretionary.

Yep you are right there are no laws about it per say, however if you were to (touch wood it would not happen) have to go into hospital then yes they would.
I am not 100% certain what point grumpy80 is trying to make but admittance to hospital does not reduce the qualifying period for SSP nor does it cause a non-existent OSP scheme to suddenly appear.
