What I can't understand is why, Kromo you think that just because we reply to this post we must some how favour animals over people.
In my mind all life is sacred. Just because we think and talk and invent things does not some how make us any more worth while than other creatures on this world.
Everything is here for a reason. We tend to get fired up over dog especially simply because these wonderful animals provide something that often humans do not.
They love us for nothing more than the time we give them.
They don't care what we give them. They are part of our culture. They have been a part of our enviroment for a long, long time. They have aided us in so many areas of our lives. They are calming to us simply by being there.
I watch something called Cell Dogs. Watching these men who society has given up on and dogs that would otherwise be dead, making such a difference to those who need help is just so wonderful.
This is why we get so angry when poeple treat these animals like this.
But I can get just as angry at those who ill treat children as well.
I can cry for both child and animal simply because they are not so far removed from eachother.
A child like a dog only knows what it is taught. Teach them both violence they will often go on to understand nothing but that.
The only difference being that if a child goes on to be violent they can walk away knowing that they will not be killed because of it.. If a dog is violent it is killed.

Tigerlilly. I quite agree. All life is sacred. Unfortunately humans have abused their position is having more power. I was going to say brainpower, but in the case of those humans that abuse animals or people then I think animals come out on top for brains.

I don't think I've quite said that ( I wasn't addressing you but the trend in general which seems to exist). What I find confusing is people putting animals and humans on the same level when they're quite plainly not. My evidence for this is the instinctive way in which, like it or not, we do value an animal as less than a human. Notice how condemning we are of people just buying and selling other humans. Does anyone care about animals?

If so, then I'm afraid that's just another area where we fundamentally disagree: animals (like us) are bunches of cells and organs. I don't see them as put here for a reason - they're just there. Like we are.

Well, if I was faced with a human child or MY dog then it would be very difficult, yes. But it would have to be the human child as the decision would not be mine to make.
If this decision was made in the middle of a jungle where noone ever knew what had happened and the child was unknown to me, then I have to confess, I would probably save my dog who I knew, loved and had been a constant companion and friend to me.

And I would rather save animals than some of my fellow human beings who I have no respect for whatsoever because of their vile behaviour (some would call it animal behaviour - but animals do not behave this way at all).
