Hello all I need some advice... I'm going for a Training Contract at a local solicitor's firm and need to give a 20 min presentation on a topic im passionate about, an inspiring person or a recent holiday visit.

Its a local firm so i've come up with the idea to talk about the locations of the offices and the town's history, re generation etc and that im passionate to have my career there.

My other idea is talking about my trip to SPinalonga in Crete and the history of the leper colony.

Any views on which is best???

Many thanks!

I think a presentation about the location of their office and a bit of history about the town would be good, but you did say that the topic needed to be about something you are passionate about, so are you passionate about this subject ? If you are more passionate and have more heartfelt feelings about your visit to Spinalonga then go for that.

Sorry my reply is if this....or but that........but I think you have two good options and either would be perfect. pussx
Ermmmmmm, I would go for something that the interviewers will know little or nothing about. This will not only stir their interest but will save them asking questions about a subject they know more about.

The chances they know nothing about leper colonies is fairly remote however, and it sounds more interesting than local history.

How about the history of vampires, where FACT meets FICTION??? That was the best presentation I have ever seen. The interviewee did not come accross as Goth-nerd, and I was thouroughly absorbed in it.

Whatever you do, remember death by power point is a painful death, so opt for free speech, visual aids and humour. Powerpoint should only be there for aide memoir of very, very pertinent points.

Good luck.

thank u both for your replies, much appreciated!
Good luck hayley, I had to give a presentation last week and I know they're not easy. I would suggest you talk about something you know about. If you have the knowledge then your confidence will show through.
I doubt very much if the actual subject matter is the interesting bit to them ...... they just want to see how you cope under pressure and what you are like when dealing with a topic you are passionate about. Definitely go for the topic you know most about and love....

We often get interviewees to talk about their favourite subject or we give them something to talk about... it's just a way of measuring how they deal with it. Someone who comes across as unconfident, incoherent, stuttery, etc would not be what we are looking for. Go back and check the spiel on what they want, then simply fulfil that ! Good luck too !
