Not sure where i should place this question so hopefully here will provide an answer.

Can UK Mobiles text to USA & Canadain bought & owned Mobiles?

I have freinds who live across the pond and was wondering if they could recieve texts. Tried it in the past (about 5 years ago) and the texts seemed to go and i was charged but the recipients never recieved.

Before i waste my hard earned pennies trying agaiin, i was wondering if any knew if things had moved on since then.

Thanks in advance.

Yes they can, I was in New York in 2003 and was sending and recieveing text messages and photos on my mobile from Mrs 4GS
I send and receive text messages with my friend who lives in the US, so I imagine it would be the same with Canada,

Dear all, it worked. Thanks for your speedy help.
rcl1 just to let you know that very often the USA cell phone operators work in a different way to ours over here in the UK and the person you are texting my be getting charged to receive the text.

I have friends that live in the states and they get charged 10c for every text they receive.

Just a FYI, so you may want to check so you don't start running their bills up
Yeah, I got home from my USA holiday last Summer to a 500 mobile bill :'(
^^ oppps :)

But I was talking about people that actually live over there and and use USA based cell phones, the receiver of the text gets charged for receiving the message, can you imagine the outrage if they started doing that over here!

I get loads of free texts a month so I was happily texting away to my mate that moved out there until he pointed out to me that I was costing him a small fortune to receive all the messages!
I have unlimited texts per month too, I didn't realise that didn't extend to being out of the Country though. I was charged a standard text rate, plus a fee for sending it while I was out of the Country and then I was charged again for receiving the reply! :'(

I nearly fainted when I phoned up enquiring as to why my phone had been cut off, that's when they told me the DD had been rejected by my bank and how much the balance was. I asked if I could pay it over 2 months and have my phone activated again and was told "no", so I grudgingly paid with my AMEX.

The woman asked me what I had been doing to run up such a large bill, I was too embarrassed to admit I was dumb enough to think my free texts extended to outside the Country so I told her my friend had borrowed my phone for emergencies LMAO.

Thanks for the heads up. will get in touch with them to make sure they havent been charged. They didnt mention it yet but the may have to wait for a bill to come in first.

Didnt know they could do that, i would be fuming if that happened over here. Its annoying enough when you have your own phone abroad and you get charged when people call you. Would not be happy at all if i started getting charged for people in other countries texting me.
