22d DI going spare ,kicked it, DI kicked it. b?c?e?
Has to be bucket as Lady Di kicked the bucket. But how ?
If a horse bucks it doesn't have to kick but in crossword language buck probably = kick.
So we have buck.
Diet less di = et.
Some how we have to add et to buck but how does Di going spare get us there?
Please put me out of my misery

No - We have Buck+diet LESS it (Kicked IT)
Sorry, I meant that if IT was kicked out then the answer would be BUCKED. But, as you say, BUCKET would seem to be the right answer.
Alternatively, Kicked it=Bucked it and with Di going spare (ie left-out) we are left with BUCKET. That's my reasoning, so I'll settle for bucket
