I want to take my girlfriend to Amsterdam later this week but does anyone know if we will be able to find places quite cheap to stay at when we get there rather than a place on line as there to expensive and i'm quite skint.  Were hoping to go next Sunday night for 3 nights but are worried of not finding anywhere to sleep.

Cheers Everyone

OK Cheers mate, we havent been getting on lately so i'm hoping this works but want something like a bed & breakfast thats cheap and hopefully cheerful as the Hotel's seem to pricey unfortunately.
I think if its one of those situations where your not getting on etc I would probably book in advance to save embarrasment/dissapointment. Have you tried Expedia.co.uk?

Yeah your probably right mate, I'll check that sight out now. Cheers

This may be "a bit" out of date - I went to Amsterdam in 1981 (!!!) - but I stayed at the Hans Brinker Hotel which was so called "student rating" (i.e. no star rating) and was very, very reasonably priced - it was well known back then.

OK Cheers for that, I'm gonna try and check that out now as thats about my price range at the moment unfortunately.

If your pretty tight budgeted why dont you go on a city break in the UK? Go to London for the weekend or York or something! I actually live in York and at this time of year its excellent.

Yeah i'm just gonna check out York on the net now as I went there a few years ago and it was nice and relaxing, just to see if there's any nice places to stay now and some nightlife, ive just mentioned it to my girlfriend and she seems happy about it so thats a big relief, although i must have e-mailed half the b&b's in Amsterdam in the last 2 hours, cheers mate for your help.

I was there last week and it was difficult to book a business class hotel as there was a major international conference being held.

But the small hotels in the streets running out from the Centraal Station had signs in the doors saying they had vacancys. If you just want a cheap basic room for the night I don't think you'll have problems.

When you come out of Centraal Station there is a VVV tourist office facing you on the left by the water, you can ask there or just check the nearby hotels.

One I remember - because of its name - was Hotel Jimmy, and a quick google found http://www.bootsnall.com/hostels/eu/neth/ams/6366.shtml and checking availability there found a lot of very inexpensive hotels available on the dates you mention.

Just to mention, I have no connection and have never stayed at these hotels. My company pays for me to stay in more expensive places.

Have a great time, Amsterdam is a fun place - although jolly cold at this time of the year

I was there about 3 years ago and I spoke to a few people who said that they couldn't get a place to stay, luckily me and my mates and booked in advance. we stayked in the Bulldog Hostel, it was about 8 a night (not exactly romantic though). You best book in advance. Try Hostelworld.com you can find hotels, apartments, hostels the lot.
