My dog had to go to the vet last week as he hurt his neck & the vet has given him 2 kinds of tablets - one a muscle relaxer and the other an anti-inflammatory.  The problem is that he has developed diarrhea & has been running to poo every couple of hours (or more often sometimes), even through the night.  I don't want to seem paranoid and phone the vet, but does anyone know what I could give him to stop the diarrhea - I don't want to stop his tablets in case his neck hasn't healed yet.

You're not being paranoid, you're worried so, get in touch with the vet and ask their advice now!!

Sorry to sound harsh but the vet is the best person to ask....

Anti inflammatories can cause digestive upsets.  Your vet could change it over to a different type as there are several types available for vetinary use.  Phone your vet and explain.  He probably will leave some different pills out for you without having to see your dog as he knows the problem.
For all medical questions, we strongly advise you to seek professional advice from your vet.  Please do not rely on, or wait for, advice from Answerbank users.

Also, without appearing too crude if one is a muscle relaxant maybe he just can't hold it in?

When our dog used to have a stomach upset either by diarrhea or vomiting we used to give it yoghurt. Live yoghurt like biopot or similar. It helps settle the stomach. Our dog never had problem eating it as it was but some dogs won't so it helps if you sweeten it with a bit of honey.

But if the symptoms are caused by the medication it might not work. No matter what you should definitely contact your vet.

Cooked white rice mixed in with his dog food might help.  Good luck to you!
go to the vet - unless you're to mean to pay the fees

Thanks for all your advice - my dog's stomach seems much better - I opted for boiled white rice & some chicken.  Unfortunately his neck isn't better, so we'll be heading back to the vet again anyway.  So you see Goofy, I'm not too mean - just didn't want to be a time-waster, unlike you obviously.
I would also suggest that you contact the Vet and discuss it with them your dog will become very dehydrated - they can it something to help replenish its fluids. I woulld also suggest you keep to very plain foods - just boiled rice and chicken to help 'bung' it up. excuse the wording. hope this helps though.
