There are many port in the UK, you are talking in the region of about 50 if not more, The amount of HGVs Cars, Buses, Motor bikes that come into here each DAY reaches hundreds, On saying that, it is the Hundreds that come in here each day is using the roads that is paid for by your Road Tax, They also come into this country with enough fuel in, what they call in the trade as BELLY TANKS these are fitted to their trailors so they do not have to pay our extortionate Derv prices, If the HGV comes from the likes of Russia it will have enough fuel to del in this country and back accross the water before refueling.
as soon as they come off the ferry they could charge them a fee.hgv's in this country cannot compete with them because of the high cost of fuel.don't think president brown will help though he is to busy taking tax off the low paid to worry about hgv drivers.
Its ludicrous! When I drove to Austria you bought your tax for Holland, Belgium and Germany before getting on the ferry. This was a computerised system (which has since been replaced by a system that took a year to get working!). In Austria you had to buy tax cards. On these you filled out one for each day. I admit I only filled them out every other day, but if you were caught without one, it was a 2000 instant fine. This system has also been replaced by a computerised system. In Hungary you had to fill out a 'kilometre form' to show how much driving you had done. We do not need a super duper system in this country because we are an island. There are a limited number of ports and the tunnel. All that has to be done is when the trucks (or other vehicles for that matter) drive through the passport check they are asked if they've paid. If not, the officer just says "That will be 10 (or whatever) please" and if they refuse its back on the boat! The Government (not just Labour, Tories were as bad) have been prevaricating about this for years. What is the problem? Its not rocket science, or have I over simplified it??
because this government dont know their a r s e from their elbow and are driven by sheer greed, also they kiss brussels a r s e. what the **** does brussells have to do with the uk??
