in todays news daily mail father of four was ordered to pay 210 pounds for over filling his bin, because he would not pay the on the spot fine of 80 pounds to the bin police. they visited him in stab proof vest ffs and told him to pay a surcharge of an extra 15 pounds to victim of violence and threatened with prison if he does not pay.
He now has a criminal record over this all because of some loony Copeland council in Cumbria.
His bin gets emptied once every two weeks and the lid was open by four inches ffs.
Why are we just sitting on our back sides and letting these local councils get away with it, its about time we should all unite and throw our bin bags on the bloody road in a heap if you cant get them in,take your ID out and every one do it together every monday then keep ringing the council to say rubbish has been dumped in your street ?MAKE A STAND and stop being wimps

The next thing coming in to this country soon is the new speed cameras BLOODY DESTROY THEM this government loves to control people how can a few hundred people in Parliament with no common sense control a nation ???????

Please tell me how this council would've gotten their hands on this man's money if he'd done what the rest of his neighbours had done and simply put his rubbish away.

It's really easy to do. I've just done it myself.

By the way - have you ever seen the amount of mess that foxes make when they get into rubbish bins?

Do you enjoy the prospect of an increased rat population because of food waste scattered about the streets overnight.

This was the situation where I used to live.

There are reasons for these rules. You don't <b.have to follow them,. but if you don't, you will be fined and look like an idiot.
winebuyer - if you can invent a camera or other easy way to catch burglars, rapists etc then every council / police force in the land will buy one.

Sadly, it is not that easy.

It is easy to catch other people.

Yes, 45 mph might not be that bad. Same argument for saying - I'll have 3 pints and then drive - I'll be fine.

What about those driving at 50 mph in a 40mph zone or 4 pints before they drive - are they okay?

Simple - don't speed and you won't get caught.

Stoke - my dog is part of my household. What about if someone is doing up their own house - should the council be obliged to take all of it regardless of how much there is? I repeat - everyone else in the country can manage without problems. Just one person can't. Who is wrong?

scorpius - I heard farther of 3 on Radio 5 live - also here: http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/42114/Crim inal-record-for-over-filling-wheelie-bin
but here http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/2008/0 4/22/gareth-corkhill-i-left-my-wheelie-bin-lid -open-4ins-now-i-ve-got-a-criminal-record-8952 0-20391088/
it says Gareth, who has three children from a previous relationship and a son with his wife Claire, - it will be interesting to know how many do live at the address.

people who are doing up there house thats a different issue this is domestic house hold rubbish not build crap
How on earth can anyone actually create that much rubbish in two weeks in the first place? Recycle for goodness sake. We've managed it. I know everyone's going on about Councils just taking the mick out of us tax payers etc and not collecting rubbish, but the waste we produce is a serious issue and we need to reduce it. So do it.
I wonder how quickly the public will catch on to the obvious answer which is after dark throw the extra bags in the street then ring the health department and report a serious health hazard, which if not removed pronto will result in the people suing you the health dept.
Yesterday I had alot of sympathy for this guy because the news stories I read made no mention of the fact that he'd been warned several times about this. I only cottoned on to this from the TV news last night, and it changes the whole thing.

It means he's not the victim of overzealous offialdom I thought he was, he's just a 'kin idiot.
I agree with Ludwig. He'd been warned countless times, and even given a bigger bin. Yet he still couldnt be bothered shutting his bin??? Then he refuses to pay a fine - smart move, if you have some law experience. Not so smart if you're a chav that thinks the law doesnt apply to them. Lock the ****** up and put his kid into care.Next question.
Most of the times media does not show a proper picture here only to attract more viewers or readers. I believe if councils do something which is purely to make our streets safe and better then only the people who do not want to comply with this, they would be worried and cook the stories. Examples, I do not drink and drive, I do not do speeding, I have mot, road tax and Insurance. For me even if they bring death penalty for these things I should not be worried. Instead I should be happy. Because I feel fcuked when someone whiz passes me from behind when I am about to stop at red traffic light, someone drives pass me in the long queue and then right at the end indicates and forces his way in.

However if it is anything to do with money making then I am against it and I believe all of us must be.
Here we go again oneeyedvic, jno, brionon, and meglet. It is such people as these, that will lap the feet of their masters in total submission, no matter what.

Is it any wonder that we are slowly becoming a dictatorship, when we have wimps like these that will cower and obey without question everthing that their masters order them to do.

Every person in this council's area should now leave their bin lids partially open in protest. Bins should be emptied every week, not just fortnightly in fact judging by the amount of rubbish that accumulates these days, they should be emptied every night. They manage to do this abroad with no problem.

Just remember these nitty-picky councils are our servants not the other way round.
Bins should be emptied every week. I hope you would mind a new ,landfill area being built next door to you, AOG? I certainly wouldn't. Act responsibly, recycle everything you can, compost your food waster and you will struggle to fill that bin in a month. I have about half a bag of non recyclables at the end of a weeks shopping!
Blimey, AOG.

I knew you were obsessed with the olden days but I didn't know that extended to the bubonic plague era. You want to attract rats do you?

My, no wonder you call yourself Goodsoul**** you are a goody two shoes.

Bins were emptied every week, not so long ago, until the councils came up with a good money saving ploy, to get us to sort amongst our own rubbish, a job we once payed our councils to carry out on our behalfl.

Where do you have this pile of composting food waste, does it attract flies and rats?

They could cut down on land fill sites if big business was prepared to do put their hand in their pocket for a change and take measures to cut down on their packaging and to produce items that were recyclable.

Quinlad, yet more shock tactics.

I believe big businesses get fined for producing too much waste now. The big thing in most companies agendas at the moment is corporate responsibility.

It's not that hard is it? If you cant follow instructions on how to put out your rubbish, there is little hope for you elsewhere in life.

Can I ask why you have resorted to calling me names?
You're right, AOG. The council are our servants. Which is why they're doing what the public want them to do.

If we had rubbish spilling out onto the street, attracting vermin and posing a health threat, and the council turned a blind eye, guess what would happen? Can you guess? Can you? No?

They'd be voted out. And replaced by councillors who were prepared to do something about it, such us - oh, I don't know - enforcing a rule that bin lids had to be kept shut.

I love your feistiness but you can be misguided at times, can't you? Do you really think the public would rise up on an issue like this?

As for your call for weekly or nightly bin collections (and I'm casting aspersions again), you and your ilk would be the first to complain when you were asked to cough up a bit more council tax. You know you would. Think it through.
Why should we expect a rise in council tax then Quinlad?

Did we get a reduction when they started emptying them every two weeks instead of once a week?

Sorry Goodsoulette, I wasn't purposely trying to insult you, I just thought your alias was rather appropriate to your actions. My alias is used to insult me much more, but then I expected this when I chose it, you should be prepared to do likewise.

The bottom line is, that it does annoy me slightly when people who for years have had their bins emptied every week, suddenly revert to scare tactics, and state that landfill sites will spring up all over the place if the bins are not emptied every two weeks.

What will be the next excuse used by money grabbing councils, empty them every month, or perhaps do the job ourselves? Some people are so gullible, their brains are just like sponges, they will absorb anything the politicians wish to throw at them.

Yeah scare tactics. Because really, why would landfill sites fill up? It's not as if we are putting things in there.

I bet they are the same scare tactics as people who say smoking is bad for you.

Of course land fills will fill up and new ones will need to be created.

You still get waste collected every week - one week rubbish, one week recyclable.

The council are not picking up any less rubbish from people - they are picking up exactly the same - they are just getting householders to sort it before collection.
