Hi Homer75.

I see your point!! I was hoping it would work in the same fashion as Toureman and Treacle-tart said.
My test would be inconclusive... I am going to ask some Policemen ( should get some interesting answers!!!! )

Also a trip to Comet is on the cards.
Latecomer, it seems to me most of the stuff written on this page is not what you wanted to know. Regardless of the ins and outs of desireability or effectiveness, sense or stupidity, the cameras are here to stay including the latest high pole technology type which is spreading across the UK as we speak.................
Never mind how I know but suffice to say it is illegal to obscure a number plate with the intention of deceit. All the sprays and paints and types of plates have been rigorously tested and researched and NONE work in the way you would hope. If a number plate is fitted and done so properly it must conform to a British standard BS 145. The only way to stop that being read is to smear mud all over it - a bit of an eyecatcher that one or remove it altogether - similarly stupid. No matter what the speed, the rain, the vehicle, the number of points one may already have, there is no way out.
Best advice is know the limit and match the number on your speedometer with the number in the big red circle. And that is excellent value at 0.00p each time.

Hi Paul22118.

Keeping within the speed limits would be easier if there were more signs actually informing you what the speed limit is!
In Cumbria there is a long dual carriage way that leads from the motorway into the heart of the Lake District, i suspect the speed limit to be 50mph.but i have yet to spot a sign saying so. Of course there are speed cameras on this roads and i go through them at 25mph. But why no signs????
And what the hell is high pole technology???
I once had a conversation with an old man who said ,after hearing some bad news, "I have lived too long" i am beginning to understand how he felt.
Lets hope this technology makes the roads a lot safer ... Just like speed cameras do.
latecomer, spray your plate, do a good job, don't skimp on layers.
stick the plate on a totally different motor, i.e. a pals car, blitz the speed trap and when you get a ticket say not my car 'cos mines a xyz and thats a photo of an abc.
if you don't get a summons then it worked for that occassion. i have heard it is less effective in strong daylight and certain other conditions though. (don't use your neighbours car that would be to obvious and don't let the plod catch you with a duff plate on. nuff said?
good luck and let us know how you get on.
NO look at the police website is says

Question

Q404
I have seen some spray that can cover my registration number, is it legal?
Answer

No it is not legal.

Any interference with the number plate to make it less easily distinguishable to the eye or would impair the making of a true photographic image is illegal. Although the spray does interfere with flash photography many of the speed cameras use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR ) that uses infrared radiation making the spray ineffective.

You could be liable for a substantial fine if you are found guilty of using such a spray.

If a speed camera has ANPR then your getting a fine anyway no matter how much spray you use

Also some speed camers have a standard CCTV camers next to them so your number plate is always on film so you get caught for speeding and using the spray 2 crimes in 1
you plate might not show up on the speed camera photo but will do on the CCTV
