Hi, I have a Potterton Kingfisher cfl 50 boiler. It works fine sometimes, but at others the flame keeps going out. It is only two years old. sometimes only the fan works, I hear the arcing sound, but no flame.  I can also see some brownish oily kind of a fluid coming out of where the flue pipe is connected to the boiler. Does anybody have a clue what the trouble could be. I called Potterton and they want 195 quid to solve the problem, whatever it is. But would they fix the oil leak as well, if I ask them to come? Any advice welcome.

Regards

I would try replacing the ignition cable first. This happened to ours and luckily we have cover with British Gas. The gasman said it was a common fault and the ignition leads are not insulated properly.

Worth a try before you fork out 195 squid!

Haleems, if you call potterton who are now called baxi-potterton they will fix anything that is wrong with your boiler except the heat exchanger. So your oil leak would get repaired as well as your original problem. The problem of course is the rip off charge they want in the first instance.

Do you know if the your neighbours are having the same problem with thiers? I'm assuming you live in a new build as your boiler is only two yrs old. If they have the same problem try and get a petition going and write off the potterton to get them to repair some if not all of them or at least a discounted price.
