Just a personal comment - Thanks to today's earlier AB replies, I have now got KGOTLA & QIGONG, but do these way-out words make for a more interesting puzzle? I say no, especially when no AB or reference book is available.

Well, a puzzle like this gives (me at least) new words and, additionally, makes one work harder for the answers. I do not like a crossword that is too easy. There is always AB when you are really stuck.
I really like it when the compiler makes one think hard for unusual words, that's why I do crosswords!
Can't agree - sorry. Both KGOTL and QIGONG were
in my reference books and available with a rolling
search on Dogpile. Those sort of clues sort out the
men from the boys, don't they?
