Half Life 2

Im having a problem accessing a Half Life 2 game i recently downloaded, I download it and it was a.rar file so i extracted the files using win rar then i clicked on the icon for the game and it comes up with an error message saying "Unable to get IFile System Interface from Filesystem factory" Does anyone know how i can get Half Life to work? Any help is greatly appreciated.

i assume when u say that u have dl'ed the game it was not legally via the 'steam' service ?

this is the reason why the game will not work as during install,it connects to the online steam service verifying your copy of the game is an original.check the following link :-

There is a way to make the game work - buy it from a shop, dont steal it off the net.
