My local council have sent a letter to my old address saying i owe them unpaid council tax from 18 months ago. this is from when i was living with my now ex-partner, her name was on it aswell.. i ignored it and they sent me another, to which i wrote "not at this address" on it. they then sent a copy of it to my work address(i came only assume is was my ex who gave them this) If I return this, is there any way they can trace me or come looking for me? I'm not currently registered to pay council tax at the moment as it gets paid by work under there name.also as her name is on it aswell, will they be asking her for the money too?

There are lots of ways that people can be traced, some very simple indeed. I typed my own name into a search engine and found lots of sites that gave clues as to my whereabouts. Then there are electoral roles, telephone directories, etc. By the way the DSS knows where just about everyone is. You are either paying NHI or claiming, but they do not give out this information. That said you might get lucky and slip through the net, even though you do owe the money, and are just playing hard to get.
