I am going to a Hindu wedding soon and I'm not sure what to wear as I know nothing of this religion or the customs. Any ideas please? Thanks.

Trousers and a long sleeved top would be appropriate. Most eastern relgions frown on ladies shwoing too much skin, including arms and legs, so go for a loose fitting matching trousers and top, or jacket, that should be fine. If you need to know for sure, enquire of the bride or groom whom ever invitied you, they will be pleased with your courtesy.

I believe the Bride wears red so avoid that and white is a mourning colour worn by widows so avoid that. You are going to have an amazing time!

Hi

Hindu weddings are wonderfully colourful - I would suggest you join in and wear something bright and cheerful. I come from a Hindu background and I know that the more traditional families prefer guests not to wear black (considered inauspicious) or white (its what people wear to funerals). Red is what the bride would usually wear so avoid that. Other than that choose any colour in the rainbow - or several, depending on what you think you can carry off! Modesty dictates that women cover up shoulders and we usually don't wear very short skirts. But a dress or skirt that sits below the knee is usually acceptable, and trousers are a safe option. There may be some rituals where you have to sit on the floor (although most modern families provide chairs for guests) so bear that it in mind. A wrap or pretty stole is usually a good accessory, very convenient to drape over arms or cover your knees when sitting down.

Have fun!
