We are supposed to dress up tomorrow (at school) for world book day. I want to dress up as a 'Gypsy' (no insult intended) but I need a character. Does anyone know a gypsy character I could be? I only have black clothes so no Esmereldas's please.

A gypsy dressed in black? Many Romanies would traditionally have preferred much more colourful costumes but what about making it a gypsy at a funeral? Of course, it's supposed to be book related, so why not say that you're representing one of the mourners at the gypsy funeral which Anthony Masters wrote about in his book 'Traveller's Tales', which is a novel about life in a Romany family. You can download the relevant chapter (as a Word document) here:

You could also make reference to Manfri Frederick Wood's non-fiction work 'In the Life of a Romany Gypsy'. Once again, the relevant chapter is available as a Word document:

Wow, thank you so much!! But alas I didn't read this until after I got home tonight. I did go as a Gypsy, but I was the old Gypsy that got run over and killed in the the book ' Thinner' by Steven King.

Yes I know that it is not a kids story, but I wanted to be a Gypsy! The only other gypsy I found out about was Rose Lee and I could not go as a stripper!!!!
