I am working at the moment, but unhappy in my job. I have decided to look for a new job and want to start applying ASAP. Do i have an obligation to tell my employer? If i do, can they ask me to leave? They are the only place that i can get a reference from, but i am worried that i will be dismissed if they find out that i am looking elsewhere. any help would be great!!

What notice periods are specified in your contract in terms of the notice you have to give them and the notice they have to give you?
You can put on the application form references not be taken up unless they offer you the job and even then just because they give you a reference doesn't mean they can dismiss you unless they want to end up in court for unfair dismissal
Best thing I found is keep your business to yourself follow procedure in terms of handing your notice in
I have been in this position many times and just look for other jobs
It's not their business if you look for other jobs
